SERVPRO of Adamstown, Mohnton drops of donations to REAL Life Community Services

For the month of November SERVPRO of Adamstown, Mohnton has been collecting canned goods and non-perishables on behalf of a non-profit organization called REAL Life Community Services. This Friday we had the pleasure of dropping off enough Thanksgiving food and fixings for at least a dozen families in the community thanks to those who helped support us.

We are so thankful for the opportunity to do our small part to give back and connect the community to hope. And that is the main goal and slogan of REAL Life Community Services. 

They connect the community to hope through partnerships, collaborations, and building relationships. Besides the food distribution center, they also have the only full time social services department in northern Lancaster County to help those who are struggling to provide basic needs for their families.

One of the many reasons we are proud to sponsor Penn State Athletics is their recognition of Hometown Heroes. Hometown Heroes are nominated by someone they know. They are recognized for outstanding services or other selfless acts like doing good deeds and helping others.

If you missed the game today you missed another win by Penn State! This season has been going exceptionally well for them and this game was no different. With a final score of 51-15 they blew those turtles out of their own water!

 The first drive of the game set the tone for Penn State stopping Maryland on a fourth and one, putting them in great field position to score a touch down on their opening drive. 

By half time they were up 21-7 and in the fourth quarter Penn State pulled away scoring a season high of 27 points bringing their total to 51. 

SERVPRO of Adamstown, Mohnton was already proud to be able to sponsor Penn State athletics,  but watching all of their wins has made it that much sweeter.

You've been through the ringer the last couple of weeks. Maybe your toilet or hot water heater flooded, maybe something caught fire and smoked up your house or business. Either way, you called SERVPRO and we were able to make it "like it never even happened" using our specialized equipment.  

You get to go back to your normal routine, but what happens to all that equipment that was used to clean and sanitize your house? It came in looking fresh and shiny and left looking like a dusty mess.

Everyone loves a good fall festival and this Saturday, October 21st, Adamstown is having one of their own!

With a name like Appleumpkin Fest, it's clear the main character here will be the apple dumplings, but there will also be pumpkin decorating, build a scarecrow, a costume parade and plenty more harvest celebration games. 

Lunch will be served at the Pavilion at 11AM followed by the apple peeling contest. The costume parade meets at the Pavilion at 1PM and there will be free hayrides from 1-4PM.

SERVPRO of Adamstown/Mohnton will be there along with many other vendors and craft stands, so come by and see us to get your freebies and goodie bags for the kids! Don't forget to grab more apple dumplings on your way out to take home and enjoy later.

The festival will be held from 10AM to 4:30PM and as always the rain date will be the next day if we experience inclement weather.

Fire Safety Tips For Your Fire Pit

Colder temperatures are upon us and with it comes more instances of fire damage. If you're like many in our area you've probably begun enjoying bonfires or campfires outside with friends and family. Although they are always a good time and can keep you warm while outdoors they have the potential to turn into a fire hazard quickly. 

SERVPRO of Adamstown/Mohnton is always around to clean up if you have fire damage, but here are some helpful tips to keep you safe and the good times rolling:

• Always make sure your fire pit or campfire is far enough away from your house that wind gusts won't lead the flames to your house.
• Don't let grass grow up or around your fire pit. Make sure to cut and clear the area around the pit of grass or weeds.
• Never leave the fire unattended.
• Always make sure the fire is completely out by dousing the entire pit with water.
• Look to make sure there are no embers still burning when you are done, even a single ember can relight and grow out of control to cause damage.

Recently we responded to a call in Mohnton over concerns of a leaking toilet. In this particular case the upstairs toilet had leaked to the connecting first floor bathroom damaging the second floor bathroom, the first floor ceiling, and the first floor bathroom.

Finding Your Water Shut Off Valve

Knowing where your water shut off valve is whether you are a homeowner or a renter could save you a lot of stress. Incase of flooding, leaky pipes, or over flow issues; knowing where your shut off valves are could end up saving you a lot of money and prevent more water damage.

Generally you can find shut off valves under sinks, behind toilets, and other locations where plumbing failures can happen like laundry rooms. If you need to shut off the water to a sink remember to shut off both the hot water and cold water valves located on the pipes underneath the sink. A running toilet can be shut off or stopped by reaching behind the toilet to find the valve and turning it all the way until the water stops running through.

If any of your valves are failing you can use the main water shut off valve to stop all water flow. It can be found in your basement along the wall closest to the street, or it may be outside next to your water meter. For those with a private well it may be next to your water pump. Looking Back To When We Became Our Own Customers

Just over a year ago as we were preparing to schedule our opening day in our community, it was put on the back burner after an eighteen wheeler came hurdling through our building and destroyed a couple of our offices. Luckily no one was harmed and since we are used to handling emergencies we knew exactly what to do and called in our SERVPRO crew.

After working with our insurance and in between many other jobs that took priority we were able to get the work done and have the structural damage repaired. Since we first opened things have gotten busy and we have enjoyed working with many members of the community and surrounding areas offering our fire and water mitigation and restoration services.

That opening day has still been on the back burner as fire damage emergencies and recent storm damage emergencies have taken the front burner, but fear not it will still be happening. Tanker Truck Meets Commercial Building

On Saturday, July 16, 2022, a hazardous waste tanker truck lost control on Willow Street and smashed into our SERVPRO Office here in Adamstown. Fortunately no one was injured and handling disasters like this is what we do!

SERVPRO responded immediately, provided shoring to the structure so the Adamstown Police and Fire Departments could coordinate the removal of the truck from the building. Once the truck was removed we built temporary walls to secure the building and tarped the roof to make the structure water tight. This is not the Grand Opening that we were hoping for, but we will be sure to make this disaster "Like it never even happened." Stay tuned for before and after photos and our official neighborhood grand opening! We are excited to work in and be a part of this historic and charming city.

This single-family townhouse was experiencing warping and rotting around its two car garage door openings. This occurred due to constant moisture exposure from failed caulking around the wooden brick molding and door jambs. We responded immediately to provide the owner with a FREE quote.
