Hometown Hero Ander Prestia gets recognition at a Penn State game. Hometown Hero Andrew Prestia.

At the Penn State Game vs. Ohio at Beaver Stadium we got to hear about another Hometown Hero. Hometown Hero is a segment that Penn State does to recognize local Hometown Heroes and their contributions to the local community.

At this game the hero was Andrew Prestia. He is the current Alpha Fire Company Rescue Captain. He's had 27 years of service as a volunteer firefighter and a combined 130 years of volunteer fire fighter service in his family.

Andrew graduated from State College high school in 1995 and has held titles of Engine Captain and Truck Captain.

In a record breaking crowd of 111,000 fans at Beaver Stadium Andrew got to receive some recognition. We appreciate all of our Hometown Heroes and can't wait to see who gets nominated next!

Building Connections In The Community

10/12/2024 (Permalink)

Working at SERVPRO®  means often times meeting people at their lowest. Our main jobs entail cleaning up and mitigating damage to people's homes and businesses from water and fire, along with many other cleaning services. We regularly carry out the reconstruction to repair the damage and make it look like "it never even happened."

Occasionally we get the opportunity to meet other members of our community who are also trying to make a difference. This week we got to meet with York City Fire Department and take a tour of their facility. It was fun getting to know some of the volunteers and firefighters over dinner. They even let Kevin sit in a firetruck! It was definitely the highlight of the week for him.

We Are Penn State!

When people think of SERVPRO® they usually think of the way we clean up fire and water damage. Maybe they think back to events where they may have seen us handing out goodies and swag to help people understand what it is we do.

We love taking the opportunity to help out in our community when we can and another way we've done that is by being proud supporters of Penn State Athletics for a second year!

Of course we enjoy catching the games, but watching them win their first two games of the season makes us even more proud to be supporting them.

We can't wait to root for them and see what they do this year. Say it with us We are Penn State!

What Memorial Day Really Means

5/28/2024 (Permalink)

Many people see Memorial Day as a fun extension of the weekend. A day to relax and have cook outs, to enjoy the nice weather and maybe spend the day at the pool or beach. And even though we do all that, the truth is we wouldn't be able to enjoy any of it were it not for the fearless soldiers that have sacrificed everything for this great country.

This Memorial Day please take the time to think about the reasons why we celebrate. Remember the courageous souls who gave all so we can keep our freedom.

For those of us at SERVPRO of Adamstown, Mohnton their sacrifices will never be forgotten. We are only the home of the free because of the brave.

SERVPRO At The Blankets For Veterans Auction

A 5 photo collage of SERVPRO members at a live basket auction. Baskets and patriotic quilts can be seen in the background. A couple SERVPRO gals at the auction.

Saturday evening our business development manager, Jordan and our digital marketing rep. Vicky enjoyed a community event for a good cause. The Patriotic Stitchers for Veterans hosted a live basket auction fundraiser for veterans.

Along with the baskets for the auction there were items up for raffles on the side and a fun 50/50 raffle as well. A hand-made book case and some Amish made cabinets were donated to the auction too.

Local businesses including SERVPRO of Adamstown, Mohnton donated baskets to be auctioned and all of the proceeds are going to buying yarn and quilting materials for future blankets. The blankets are given to our Veterans in hospices in Lancaster, York, Harrisburg, Lebanon, and Coatesville VA hospitals.

The SERVPRO team knows there are many ways to help our communities outside of fire and water damage restoration. If you have an interest in donating or helping the Patriotic Stitchers for Veterans you can reach them at PatrioticStitchersforVets@gmail.com or give them a search on facebook!

SERVPRO In The Community

Most of the time SERVPRO crew members interact with people after they have suffered a water or fire damage, or need some sort of cleaning and repair. But, those of us at SERVPRO love having opportunities to connect with members of the community on brighter days. One of the ways we like to connect and interact with people is through being part of events in the community.

We love being able to give back whether it's having a table and handing out SWAG bags at local golf events, donating to community programs like REAL Life Community Services, or volunteering on projects to better the community like the Denver-Ephrata Area Rotary Gun Club's Route 272 clean up this past weekend.

If you enjoy community events, don't forget to seek us out at upcoming ones like Adamstown Community Days and the Denver Fair! Also, coming up on April 27th is the Patriotic Stitchers for Veterans live basket auction starting at 4pm. All proceeds go to buying yarn and quilting materials to make lovely blankets for veterans in hospice. It is being held at the Ephrata American Legion. Don't miss out, we will see you there!

SERVPRO Of Adamstown, Mohnton Loves Connecting With The Community.

One of the perks of working in Lancaster County is getting to know the wonderful members of the community. One way we do that is by going into their homes in their times of need to help with fire and water damage.

Another, more fun way of getting to know everyone is by meeting them at community events. Thanks to the Northern Lancaster County Chamber of Commerce we have been able to participate in many fun events whether they were educational, empowering, or just enjoying meeting amazing people at Gracie's On Main for breakfast.

We've been lucky to work in such a friendly, welcoming town that has many people including first responders who love hosting events and getting to know everyone.

If you're looking for something to do this weekend check out Adamstown Fire Company for their soup and sub sale that starts at 10 AM. You can also join their sportsman's raffle online for the drawing at 10 AM March 23rd.

Thanksgiving Food Drive

For the month of November SERVPRO of Adamstown, Mohnton has been collecting canned goods and non-perishables on behalf of a non-profit organization called REAL Life Community Services. This Friday we had the pleasure of dropping off enough Thanksgiving food and fixings for at least a dozen families in the community thanks to those who helped support us.

We are so thankful for the opportunity to do our small part to give back and connect the community to hope. And that is the main goal and slogan of REAL Life Community Services.

They connect the community to hope through partnerships, collaborations, and building relationships. Besides the food distribution center, they also have the only full time social services department in northern Lancaster County to help those who are struggling to provide basic needs for their families.

If you have food you would like to donate they are available the first Friday of every month to collect donations. But, if you find yourself struggling to make ends meet for your family please don't hesitate to visit their website at www.reallcs.org and connect to helping hands.

Hometown Heroes On Veteran's Day

Our crew here at SERVPRO of Adamstown, Mohnton is all about helping people in their time of need. This Veteran's Day we are taking the time to remember all of the veteran's who selflessly put their lives on the line to keep the rest of America safe.

One of the many reasons we are proud to sponsor Penn State Athletics is their recognition of Hometown Heroes. Hometown Heroes are nominated by someone they know. They are recognized for outstanding services or other selfless acts like doing good deeds and helping others.

Last week Penn State recognized 94 year-old Air Force Major Dr. Lewis Patterson as a Hometown Hero for his service. Join us this Veteran's Day as they do the same for another veteran.

Nittany Lions Crush the Terrapins

A lion mascot is shown pointing while the logos for Penn State, Maryland Terrapins, and SERVPRO can all be seen. Saturday's Game Day photo.

If you missed the game today you missed another win by Penn State! This season has been going exceptionally well for them and this game was no different. With a final score of 51-15 they blew those turtles out of their own water!

The first drive of the game set the tone for Penn State stopping Maryland on a fourth and one, putting them in great field position to score a touch down on their opening drive.

By half time they were up 21-7 and in the fourth quarter Penn State pulled away scoring a season high of 27 points bringing their total to 51.

SERVPRO of Adamstown, Mohnton was already proud to be able to sponsor Penn State athletics,  but watching all of their wins has made it that much sweeter.

Everyone loves a good fall festival and this Saturday, October 21st, Adamstown is having one of their own!

With a name like Appleumpkin Fest, it's clear the main character here will be the apple dumplings, but there will also be pumpkin decorating, build a scarecrow, a costume parade and plenty more harvest celebration games.

Lunch will be served at the Pavilion at 11AM followed by the apple peeling contest. The costume parade meets at the Pavilion at 1PM and there will be free hayrides from 1-4PM.

SERVPRO of Adamstown/Mohnton will be there along with many other vendors and craft stands, so come by and see us to get your freebies and goodie bags for the kids! Don't forget to grab more apple dumplings on your way out to take home and enjoy later.

The festival will be held from 10AM to 4:30PM and as always the rain date will be the next day if we experience inclement weather.

In Case You Missed It...

10/11/2023 (Permalink)

Do you have a favorite football team? For us here at SERVPRO of Adamstown/Mohnton it's hands down the Nittany Lions! When we aren't cleaning up water damage, fire damage, or doing mold remediation we're tuned into their games at the office. Whether it's witnessing the heartbreak of Alabama stopping us at the one yard line in the Sugar Bowl or the triumph of seeing Kevin Kelly coming in clutch to win the Orange Bowl; WE BLEED BLUE (and green)!

Now not only can we enjoy their games but we can show our support on our SERVPRO merch as well! And that is because we teamed up with a group of other PA SERVPRO franchise owners to be sponsors of Penn State Athletics!

We could not be more excited for the opportunity to show our Lion Pride!

We Had A Blast At The Denver Fair!

9/20/2023 (Permalink)

Most of the time when people see us it's not for a good reason. It's because they had water damage, fire damage, storm damage, or some other hazardous issue. So when we get the chance to get out and meet members of our community for more positive reasons, we jump on it!

Last week that opportunity was the Denver Fair.  Besides getting to try some great food like J.R.'S Brisket, we got to invite our families and let the kiddos enjoy the petting zoo and fun rides like the Berry Go Round

We love being able to show that although the SERVPRO name may be big, our franchise is a close-knit friends and family owned operation. If you face the terrible disaster of damage to your home give us a call at (717)484-0007 and see for yourself that you won't be treated as just another number; but a fellow community member that we will help every step of the way.
