8/27/2023 (Permalink)

Knowing where your water shut off valve is whether you are a homeowner or a renter could save you a lot of stress. Incase of flooding, leaky pipes, or over flow issues; knowing where your shut off valves are could end up saving you a lot of money and prevent more water damage.

Generally you can find shut off valves under sinks, behind toilets, and other locations where plumbing failures can happen like laundry rooms. If you need to shut off the water to a sink remember to shut off both the hot water and cold water valves located on the pipes underneath the sink. A running toilet can be shut off or stopped by reaching behind the toilet to find the valve and turning it all the way until the water stops running through.

If any of your valves are failing you can use the main water shut off valve to stop all water flow. It can be found in your basement along the wall closest to the street, or it may be outside next to your water meter. For those with a private well it may be next to your water pump. Shutting off these valves quickly can help prevent more damage in a water catastrophe then call SERVPRO at (717)484-0007 to repair the rest!
